Gaga Set to Shatter Perry’s Teenage Dream at MTV Europe Music Awards?

Ahead of Europe’s most anticipated music award ceremony, the 2010 MTV Europe Music Awards, Nokia’s Ovi Music reveals Lady Gaga is set to scoop all five award nominations – if music downloads are anything to go by.

Lady Gaga, the self-styled Princess of Pop, is the world’s most popular female artist, according to music downloads from Ovi Music across 38 countries*. She is going head-to-head with pop rival Katy Perry who is also up for five awards, and the two will lock horns in Best Pop, Best Female, Best Song and Best Video categories.

According to the research, if downloads via Nokia’s Ovi Music service determined the winner, Lady Gaga would wipe the floor with Katy Perry.  She tops the charts in 38 countries and claims two out of the world’s five most downloaded tracks – Bad Romance and The Fame.

In terms of female artists Lady Gaga has a 40 percent share of downloads compared with rival nominees Shakira, Katy Perry, Ke$ha, Rihanna, Alexandra Burke and Miley Cyrus and the most popular song of Lady Gaga is Bad Romance, followed by The Fame and Alejandro

“As we approach the MTV Europe Music Awards, it seems Lady Gaga is firmly on track to win the battle for girl power – she’s incredibly popular amongst Ovi Music downloaders around the world. It's great to see so many female artists nominated for awards and, despite being the underdog, Katy Perry’s hit California Gurls saw downloads rocketing earlier this year,” said Jake Larsen, head of music for Nokia Middle East and Africa.
